Coronary Artery Disease Infographic.
Medium: Adobe photoshop and illustrator
Client: Johnson & Johnson/ AMI
Purpose: To depict the pathology of coronary artery disease, illustrating arterial narrowing due to plaque buildup, and to show the treatment process of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with placement of a stent to restore blood flow.
Textbook and Clinical Imagery
When working on this illustration, I wanted to clearly convey the orientation of the coronary arteries on the heart while breaking down the key steps of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). My goal was to illustrate each stage-catheter and stent placement, balloon inflation to compress the plaque, and stent expansion-in a way that makes the procedure easy to follow and understand. To achieve this, I knew I needed accurate reference photography showing the stent and catheter both during insertion and in their expanded state, so I could depict them precisely and help communicate the procedure as faithfully as possible.

Ideation and Work in Progress
In developing this illustration, I focused on achieving a realistic depiction of coronary artery disease and the percutaneous coronary intervention procedure by carefully studying anatomical references and clinical imagery. I chose to maintain elements of line art in the final rendering to add a clear, structured layer that guides the viewer through complex details while preserving an illustrative quality.
To reinforce a cohesive, monochromatic aesthetic, I used warmer red and pink hues that evoke the underlying vascular theme. I also aimed to humanize the piece by showing a patient in visible pain, underscoring the clinical urgency of the condition, while thoughtfully incorporating racial diversity to ensure the image resonates more broadly and reflects real-world patient populations.
